For little over a year, I have had the pleasure of shooting for Community Hospital and Wellness Center in Bryan, Ohio. They have a quarterly magazine called Wellness Matter. It's a magazine that talks about what is new and what is happening in the hospital and or area. It shares facts on medical conditions and so on. It has been and certainly a fun project every quarter.
It starts first with what the Marketing Manager is thinking about what they would like to publish for the quarter magazine. I listen to what they are thinking and then we take a tour of the area's that they are thinking. I like this because it gives me a look at the area and think about, how can I get what they want for the shoot. When the day of shoot takes to place, this is where I play the role of Director and Photographer. The people are average people and not models. Setup takes place, pictures are taken. After pictures are taken the very first thing I do is back up all photo's. After backup, pictures are processed (shooting in raw) and then sent to the client. If any changes are needed, changes are made and my job is done.
Here is a picture we did for a past magazine. It was a picture of their lab. The lighting was absolutely horrible. (fluorescent green light) My Idea was light everything with flash. I do this by starting out with a blank picture. With no light means I have no ambient light. With that done, I started out with the key light on the star of the picture. While the picture looked good, I wanted better. I put another light with a blue and magenta gel in the back of the unit to show separation and atmosphere or mood. Still not happy, put a CTO gel on the key light and finally a picture that I was happy but more important the client.
This is just one setup of many for the day. I want to Thank the CHWC for trusting me as their photographer and I always look forward to our next challenge. We are working on a huge project that I look forward to sharing when it comes out later this year.
